HI, I’M MYRON KANDEL, PRESIDENT OF NEW HAMPSHIRE’S INITIATIVE FOR CORPORATE RESPONSIBILITY AND INVESTOR PROTECTION.
I’M HERE AT THE PIERCE MANSE IN CONCORD, AN APPROPRIATE LOCATION FOR ONE OF OUR SERIES OF INTERVIEWS WITH THE PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATES.
FRANKLIN PIERCE, AS YOU MAY KNOW, SERVED AS THE 14TH PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES FROM 1853 TO 1857.
OUR SERIES IS CALLED “MORE THAN MONEY, MYRON KANDEL AND THE PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATES.”
IT’S BEING PRODUCED IN COOPERATION WITH NEW HAMPSHIRE PUBLIC TELEVISION AND THE MARLIN FITZWATER CENTER FOR COMMUNICATION AT FRANKLIN PIERCE UNIVERSITY, IN RINDGE.
THE FOCUS OF THIS SERIES IS ON BUSINESS ETHICS, CORPORATE RESPONSIBILITY AND INVESTOR PROTECTION – VITAL ISSUES FOR THE NATION’S ECONOMY.
TODAY I’M SPEAKING WITH CONNECTICUT SENATOR CHRIS DODD, CANDIDATE FOR THE DEMOCRATIC NOMINATION FOR PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES.
CHRIS DODD, 63 YEARS OLD, IS NOW SERVING HIS FIFTH TERM AS A U.S. SENATOR, HAVING BEEN A MEMBER OF THE HOUSE FOR SIX YEARS BEFORE THAT. HE IS CHAIRMAN OF THE POWERFUL SENATE BANKING COMMITTEE. HE’S ALSO THE FATHER OF TWO YOUNG DAUGHTERS… AND I’M NOT SURE WHICH OF THOSE ROLES TAKES UP MORE OF HIS TIME.
SENATOR, THANK YOU FOR FINDING THE TIME TO TALK TO ME TODAY ON THIS EDITION OF MORE THAN MONEY.
LET ME START OFF BY ASKING YOU -- CONSIDERING ALL THE SCANDALS OF THE RECENT PAST AND THOSE THAT STILL KEEP POPPING UP -- WHAT YOU THINK ABOUT THE ETHICAL CLIMATE OF AMERICAN BUSINESS THESE DAYS…
